Kariye Müzesi
Getting used to hear the call to prayer, eating too many seven-course meals, and having an unbelievable time. Here’s what we did today:
- Slept in until 1030 this morning since it was the weekend
- Lunch at very good chinese restaurant (eggrolls, egg drop soup, fish, rice, cabbage , chicken)
- Visit to Christian church, now museum (Kariye Müzesi). Beautiful Greek mosaics depicting Christ’s life still largely intact
- Visit to second Ottoman Palace, European architecture. Had to wear plastic on bottom of shoes to protect rugs
- Ferry to Asian side of Istanbul (3rd continent in seven days) non-tourist area shops. Dinner at Çiya Kebap (lambaca: thin pizza with lemon juice)
- Watched amazing sunset over Ayasofya and Sultanahamet from Asian side
- Ferry to eat side of European Golden Horn. Saw four cruise ships docked. Çay tea and wonderful authentic cheesecake
- Head back to hotel via train
